HollyNorth Environmental Policy
HollyNorth has numerous initiatives for reducing our environmental footprint.
To start, we looked at our operations and developed ongoing strategies to reduce our consumption of energy, materials and carbon emissions.
l
In our day to day operations – we only print when necessary and take advantage of electronic quotes, invoices, statements and communications.
Instead of printing catalogs, we use our website to list items for sale, and conduct “e” commerce.
Double sided printing, and reuse of single sided as memo paper is also the norm.
Once totally used, paper is shredded for reuse as packing materials or recycled.
l
To keep our energy use to a minimum, we have heat saving curtains in our loading bays, timer and sensor operated lights, and turn off all electronics when not in use.
We have reviewed our operations with BC Hydro to ensure we are using our power efficiently –
moving toward more efficient fixtures and equipment as it becomes available and cost feasible.
l
HollyNorth staff regularly car pool, shipping and deliveries are often combined to minimize truck and fuel usage. Specialized contractors are permitted to work at home offices or shops, reducing the commuting requirement.
l
Bottles, cans and returnable items are saved and supplied to local charities for refund.
l
Non-refundable items such as metal, electronics, printing cartridges, plastics, packaging materials are collected and then forwarded to local recycling agencies.
l
Recycling bins, worm compost for food waste, non-disposable glass ware, cloths and towels, eco friendly cleaning products, post consumer waste paper, bulk water are all part of our policy.
For our clients
l
HollyNorth accepts back any goods we sell for recycling, proper disposal, or re-use.
This includes hazardous materials such as heavy metals from batteries, ballasts, bulbs, electronics, paint supplies, packaging etc... We are also happy to aid our clients in reducing their impact by ensuring proper disposal, when re-use and reduction are not feasible, talk to us to see where we can assist.
.
l
Our post consumer waste reusable shopping bags have been a real hit, minimizing the use of plastic bags.
l
HollyNorth hosts an annual “Equipment Swap”, this non-profit event is scheduled to coincide with BC Film Industry Week, but is open to all sectors including independents, theatrical, and event production.
Vendors are invited to showcase local technologies and innovations, re-sell used equipment and supplies, or display locally sourced items to encourage “reduction, reuse and recycling” of production equipment and materials.
l
Responsible usage – our expertise in application comes with our products.
Purchasing Policy
l
HollyNorth requests environmental policies from all of its vendors, and are always on the look out for “greener” options. See our website for updates on our latest finds!
l
Bulk buying, refillable containers, biodegradable or non-hazardous goods and
local sourcing are all primary considerations for us.
We know that every little bit helps – and for the inevitable carbon creation through using electricity, fuel (including business air travel) and materials we offset our carbon use through local initiatives coordinated through Eco Neutral ERA, allowing HollyNorth to be a carbon neutral operation.
Off-setting is just part of it – we strive to reduce our impact through reducing our consumption of all goods and materials, both in-house, and by working with our clients to develop greener strategies.
